What does shared server, dedicated server, and self-hosted mean?

Shared Server - other users are on the same hardware platform. We have multiple servers across the world and we'll pick a server for you.

Dedicated Server - this option gets you your own Linux based cloud VPS with firewall, root access, and a static ip address. You can use our SSL certificate or upload your own. Optionally, you can have a custom domain url e.g. yourcompany.viewbuilder.io

Self Hosted - we provide you with all the files and instructions you need to host it on your own server like AWS or Azure.

If you require assitance setting it up...we can set it up for you. We just need root and shell access to your VM, and leave the rest to us. We'll let you know when its done and contact you if there are any issues. Takes 1 day and theres no charge for this service.

How do you access my N4/AX, MS Sql, MQTT, MY Sql, FTP, SSH2 SFtp, or Rest API?

Depending on which connector, if it requires software to be installed, we'll provide you with a free module which has a built-in api to access your station data or api. Other api's are built-in and ready to connect.

Only our servers on 109.x.x.x can access your api. No api is viewable directly from the Web make it very secure.

What are Datasources or Connectors?

For example, an N4/AX station, MS SQL, MY SQL, FTP, SSH2, SFtp, REST are examples of datasources or a connectors. Lets say you go for the starter package...you get 1 of each kind of connector. So, 1 N4/Ax, 1 MsSQL, 1 Rest Api, etc. See All Features...

We integrate new api's all the time. If you would like a new connector/integration for your api, then Send us the details and we'll add it to our library.

Can I put this system on my own network?

Yes! You don't need an internet connection to run this system. It can be on your local network to keep everything even more secure. We can help you install it and get up and running in no time.

How do I show data from my LoRaWAN® devices on View Builder?

1. Add your gateways, devices and applications on View Builder under the data sources section.

2. Add a user for the mqtts connection to our server in the data sources section.

3. On View Builder - add a MQTTs Client data source:

Name: VB LoRaWAN®
Host/Broker/Address: subdomain.viewbuilder.io
Protocol: Mqtts
Username: set up in the users section
e.g. [email protected]
Password: password you setup for the user above

4. Create a view, add widgets, and subscribe to topics - will be in the format application/id/device/devEui/event/up
e.g. application/ff3c895c-4e65-42ed-9274-4040e70ded4f/device/e6e1e10001038cad/event/up

How do I connect from The Things Network to View Builder?

1. Make sure your devices/applications and gateways are up and running on your Things Network.

2. Follow MQTT Server guide on creating an api key on TTN.

3. On View Builder - add a MQTT Client data source:

Name: The Things Network
Host/Broker/Address: eu1.cloud.thethings.industries
Protocol: Mqtt
Username: should be in the format {application id}@{tenant id}
e.g. my-app@viewbuilder
Password: this is the api key from TTN you setup in step 2

4. Subscribe to topics - will be in the format v3/{application id}@{tenant id}/devices/{device id}/up
e.g. v3/my-app@viewbuilder/devices/eui-mydeviceid/up

How many datasources can I have?

Each datasource/connector options are listed above. You are billed monthly for the service or you can pay for an extended period.

How many Users, Profiles, and Roles do I have?

Profile: there are 4 types of users in the system.
Administrator (default): this is the client/customer. They have full access to the system.

Engineer - no View Builder designer or nav menu modification allowed. Allow control over points. Modify schedules.

Standard Users - no View Builder designer or nav menu modification allowed. No control over points. Read only schedules.

Operator - no View Builder designer or nav menu modification allowed. No control over points. Modify schedules.

Note: the 1 connector product above includes 1 Administrator, 1 Engineer, 1 Standard user, 1 Operator. All other products are unlimited.

When setting up the navigation menu, you can select one or more users who have access to that item.

Roles: users can be dropped into one or more roles. The role determines which menu item to show. For example you could have the roles Site 1 and Site 2. A user can be assigned this role and this is what will appear on the navigation menu. If no role is selected then the user will see the navigation menu item. Note: the 1 connector product above includes 1 role.

Is this just a Niagara Station running in the cloud?

No, its a completely independent solution that can access N4/AX stations and other API's without exposing them to the WWW.

Can I still build custom dashboards?

You can still use all the features View Builder offers, including building custom dashboards. Take a look at what you can build...Examples

Do you offer any support or feature requests?

Yes, we offer free support from setting it all up to ongoing support. We update the system quite often as new feature requests come in.

Whats the difference between this View Builder IOT and N4 View Builder?
